| Top Tips to Make the Most out of Your Community |

|
|
| A. Your SCCE Professional Social Profile: |
| |
Go to your "Profile" page by clicking Here. |
| |
1. Add your photo: |
| |
To add a photo to your profile, make sure the photo is max 600 by 600 pixels. You can easily resize photos in windows by going to Start - Programs - Microsoft Office - Office Tools - Microsoft Office Picture Manager. Once you open that application (assuming you have Word) make sure the top of the screen shows 100% as the view (sometimes a photo can look small but can be big because you are zoomed out). Then click on edit and change the size accordingly.
Add the photo by clicking the "edit picture" button on your "My Profile" page. |
| |
2. Update your Bio: |
| |
Your bio should not be pages long, just a paragraph or two will do which gives a brief history of your career. This is not supposed to be a resume per se (save that for the job bank) but is supposed to give people a quick snap shot of your professional history. |
| |
3. Select your interests, certifications, education and job history: |
| |
You can do all of this on the same page. Here is how it will benefit you... if you select the interest "worker's comp" for example, as long as at least one other person has that same interest, the system will create a network of "like" people. You will see the link to the various networks in the left hand column. The same goes for jobs (people who work or used to work in the same company), education (people who went to school at the same place), certifications (others who hold the CHC, CCEP, CHCRC, etc.) and location (city and state/province). By updating your profile, you will be expanding your network. |
| |
4. Recent Visitors: |
| |
View who has recently visited your profile by looking at the "Recent Visitors" heading over the left hand side (under your photo). Also, see the number next to the "Recent Visitors" heading to see the total number of visitors your profile has received. |
| |
5. Browse Your Networks: |
| |
Take a look at the other dynamic networks that have been created for you based on chapter, event history, interests and communities. All are displayed down the left column. To see a more detailed view, click on the individual group or network. |
| |
6. Build Groups/Communities: Click Here. |
| |
The traditional way of an association providing member benefits would have been to create groups for its members to participate in. Our new community platform allows members to create their own groups and invite whoever they wish to participate in them. If you have compliance or ethics related interest area that is not yet served by SCCE, try doing the following two things:
a. Browse the entire existing member created groups by clicking on "Discussion Groups" tab at the top of the screen and then on "ListServ members, details & create new group" in the left hand menu. Try using the "Advanced Search" to help you sort through/filter the results. If you see one you are interested in, join it.
b. If you do not find your interest area, create your own community by clicking on "Add a new Community". Choose "Community" for the type of Community. |
| |
7. Inbox: Click Here. |
| |
Click on your Inbox in "My Profile" to view any outstanding:
a. Messages sent to you
b. Contact (friend) Requests which you have not responded to
c. Community/Group Invitations that need to be accepted or declined.
You can also reply/delete or mark as unread etc. any outstanding messages. |
| |
8. My Contacts: Click Here |
| |
Browse your contacts to see who you have established a trust relationship with (see who has either sent you a contact request or accepted one that you have sent to them - you can also see any which have not been responded to).
The "My Contacts" system provides you the ability to rate your contacts. This is only for your personal use and is not seen by others. |
| |
9. Add Contact(s)/Find Contact: Click Here |
| |
The Member Directory allows you to search over 20,000 compliance and ethics related profiles. While the directory is only available to logged in users.
a. Try searching for a compliance and ethics related co-worker or peer by first and/or last name and add them as a contact (this will send them a contact/friend request.
b. When you see the results, click on "Show on Map" to view the results geographically.
c. Try a new search but this time try going to the bottom of the search screen and searching for people based on "likeness". We are still refining the algorithm for this but it is fun to see the results (although sometimes a little scary ;-)).
FYI - Likeness is based on things like certifications, interests, location etc. so for it to be accurate you need to ensure your "Professional Social Profile" is up to date.
Note: The more search criteria you enter, the fewer results you will get. In other words try putting Firstname = Bob instead of "Bobby" because a search for "bob" will include anyone called "bobby". Generally, you should leave most fields blank - perhaps just search by lastname and the first initial of the person's first name. |
| |
10. Set your Privacy/Notification Preferences: Click Here |
| |
When in "My Profile" area you will see a navigation link for "Preferences". This is where you set your email notification preferences for "My Profile" (community requests, contact requests and alike). This is also the screen where you specify which parts of your professional profile should be visible to the public (and to the search engines). The choice is entirely yours as to what you want to display to your Contacts, Members or the Public. Since this profile will be part of your online professional resume (similar to linked-in), we recommend reaching the widest audience possible by setting your profile to public for as much as you feel comfortable with. |
| |
11. Create a Blog: Click Here |
| |
Despite common belief, Blogs do not have to be long. To get started in the blogging world, go to the "Blogs" tab in "My Profile" and click on "New Blog" (over the right hand side of the screen). Create a one or two paragraph blog just giving a high-level view of what is of the most interest for you in the Compliance and ethics world right now.
One important feature of the blog is the permissions. As a SCCE Social Network user, you choose who can see your blog posting i.e. do you want the search engines to find it (and your profile) or do you want to restrict access to authenticated users only - you decide when you create the blog entry.
While in the blog area, click on "Most Recent" and browse through all the latest member created blog entries. Remember to rate and comment on them where appropriate. |
