  • 1.  Making HIPAA Training FUN

This may be a random question but I'm hoping at least some others have thought of some ideas and can give my brain a jump start!

I am hosing a HIPAA-related training for my small company (20-30 people) this week.  I want to provide an afternoon snack, but I want to "drive home" our HIPAA focus, even with the snack

Does anyone have any creative ideas for a snack that would in some way relate to HIPAA?
For example, I thought about providing a variety of snacks that start with the letters H, I, P, and A.  Or having cookies that have "HIPAA" written on them.

My sister also suggested that we could do some kind of activity like playing Hungry Hungry HIPPO's (since HIPAA and HIPPO are often confused) and that the snacks are part of the game or a reward for the game?

Our focus will be on HIPAA Security, so a snack that is in some what "Security" related would be great too.

Any additional fun ideas or thoughts?  Thanks for your input!

Here are a couple more ideas using the candy examples:

PayDay candy bar - You may have to dish out a big PayDay if you breach....
100 Grand candy bar - Penalties can range from ....
Twix candy - Don't be "be-TWIX" and between when it comes to ....
Lifesavers - Keeping PHI secure can be a "lifesaver" ....

I have created something a little different for an interactive  HIPAA training. I developed a Privacy Rule Policies and Procedures "Scavenger Hunt" where staff are given questions/statements where they must search the SOPs to find the missing information.

It is a way to drive staff into the HIPAA SOPs and make it fun in the process.

    Just another idea to consider.

Here is a list of the questions I have created. They correspond to the page numbers listed in our SOPs. We will be incorporating this in next year's HIPAA training. Additional hints will be provided to make it a little less difficult to find the answers.
