    Good Morning,

    Scenario:
Looking for comments and or suggestions on how other are handling situations where the parents comes in for let's say an OB GYN check up and brings children.  They obviously aren't able to go into the room with mom. They are seemingly being left for MA's to take care of them. They need health care but bringing the children and leaving them unattended is a risk to safety and organizational liability.  They have waited to see their providers but don't have anyone to care for their children while they are being exam.  Help, any suggestions, protocols, regs, etc. desired.

    Thanks!

    Michelle,

We struggle with the same issue!  We've posted signs in our lobbies stating that children cannot be left unattended with the suggestion to bring another adult to watch them.  (I think the signs are unfriendly, but there they are).  What usually happens is the adult will no-show because there is no other alternative for child care.  We will permit children age 12 or older to remain in the waiting room while the parent is in the exam room.
