I thought it might be nice to put out "Version 3 of Measuring Compliance Program Effectiveness" before I head out to the CI in Boston next month.

Not to be confused with any fee-based version, this version I created and am giving to you free of charge. Use it however you want. But don't sell it (modified or otherwise). I'm glad to see that there are other versions that people have done, for example one for SNFs, which have been made available for free.

As always, if you find any errors, please forward them to me for correction, and any ideas for inclusion in future versions.

In case you were wondering, the original HCCA-OIG resource guide can be found at:

Thanks Carl...I think this tool should be a "must use" for compliance professionals that want to show a method to measure the effectiveness of their compliance programs.

For example, I make it no secret that I use The MEG in a 7 step compliance/HIPAA officer training program...and the entire time, full attribution to you as the person that made this tool available will be given and that the tool is freely available given your requests that people do not sell it so as to keep it freely available.  Once people know HOW to use the tool and apply some general Excel functions to its data gathering properties...watch out!

I've put my own tips and tricks to my own modifications of the tool (table of contents for example and what I call "clear the data macros")...and the HIPAA version of The MEG is likely to be released AFTER the Compliance Institute.  I am very curious to hear from folks on what modifications they have made to their copy of The MEG.

I've offered a number of OPEN TO ALL sessions on how to use The MEG and in each class, people saw much potential in its use.  One thing is that those folks who are maybe just a bit above the beginner level in Excel can really unlock a lot of potential in the use of the tool. People that have average or advanced skills...look out!  I've seen data entry screens, what if scenarios (aka Monte Carlo analysis), and very innovative data analysis to name a few.

Looking forward to introducing those interested in The MEG in mini workshops at the CI.  There is one trick (or maybe more) in Excel that people can really benefit from using with The MEG which I think I may try to fit in the inventory of "stuff" for session 604...that would be truly wild.

As before...many thanks for your tireless efforts.

Indeed...I still have my original version that I created before Carl created this excellent version...which I use to try different data visualization options...different graphs and charts.

I find that some of the Pivot Tables that I have been experimenting with work very well in The MEG by Carl.  I'll show you some examples at the CI.

I can't imagine how many hours this took!  I created a very simple version and it seemed to take me forever!  Thanks Carl!
