  • 1.  Fed Reg...HIPAA Hit Today

    Posted 01-24-2020 05:36 AM
Throwing this out for folks who check the Fed Reg...

Questions...as this is also a very key and I believe fundamental ability/skill to have...yet MANY do not or are unable to

    1. Within HIPAA, is there a Part that is included in the Fed Reg today?
    2. What Part or Section is listed?
    3. What page and on what date of the Fed Reg?
    4. A very brief (or cut and paste) description of what the Fed Reg is indicating, if applicable.

    Good luck!

There is a section of 45 CFR Part 162 included today (Admin Simplification)

Section 162 is on page 4236

    January 24, 2020

Admin Simplification: Modification of the Requirements for the Use of HIPAA National Council for Prescription Drug Programs D.0 Standard – Final Rule

I do love knowing how to go out to the Federal Register and being able to see if there are any updates on a regular basis on my own. Thanks for showing me how to do this years ago.

    Allie

Well, I wasn't as fast as Allie, but I did come up with the same thing.
    1. Yes there was a hit on HIPAA
    2. 45 CFR Section 162
    3. It is on pages 4236-4242 of the 24 January 2020 issue
    4. Administrative Simplification:
    Modification of the Requirements for
the Use of Health Insurance Portability
and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA)
    National Council for Prescription Drug
    Programs (NCPDP) D.0 Standard
    AGENCY:
    Office of the Secretary, HHS.
    ACTION: Final rule.
SUMMARY: This final rule adopts a
modification of the requirements for the
    use of the Telecommunication Standard
    Implementation Guide, Version D,
    Release 0 (Version D.0), August 2007,
    National Council for Prescription Drug
    Programs, by requiring covered entities
to use the Quantity Prescribed (460–ET)
field for retail pharmacy transactions for
    Schedule II drugs. The modification
    enables covered entities to distinguish
whether a prescription is a ''partial fill,''
where less than the full amount
prescribed is dispensed, or a refill,
where the full amount prescribed is
    dispensed, in the HIPAA retail
    pharmacy transactions. This
modification is important to ensure the
availability of a greater quantum of data
    that may help prevent impermissible
refills of Schedule II drugs, which will
help to address the public health
    concerns associated with prescription
drug abuse in the United States.
DATES: Effective Date: This final rule is
    effective on March 24, 2020.
    Incorporation by reference:
    The
    incorporation by reference of certain
publications listed in the rule was
approved by the Director of the Federal
Register as of March 17, 2009.
    Compliance Date:
    Compliance with
    these regulations is required by
    September 21, 2020.
