CCEP Exam- Struggling

  • 1.  CCEP Exam- Struggling

    Hi Everyone,

I am new to the SCCE community. I have had a compliance role for almost 2 years now and am looking for direction on how I can better prepare for the CCEP Exam without taking the Academy. The cost and time out of work is not doable.

I just completed the test yesterday and scored 3 points below the passing grade. I have studied all materials listed in the resources and followed the comments from everyone located on the board for months.

I just sent in my paperwork to retake it while the information is fresh in my mind...but I am struggling to gain a better understanding of what I can do differently this time to succeed.

Many questions, "what is the best option" "what is the first thing you do", seemed subjective to me... and many times 2 answers appeared to be correct (based off all of my reading). I believe these are the ones that tripped me up. I felt like I had a good understanding of the content but that many of these questions were designed to "trick" as opposed to "make you think."

Any advise is greatly appreciated. Hopefully this did not come off as sounding bitter-

    Hi Virginia,

I just missed it by 2 points.  Did you finally pass?  I hope so.  Any advice?

    Hi John,

If you are interested, I am planning a CCEP study group for next month (November). It will consist of four one hour sessions over the course of four evenings. I am in the process of finalizing my schedule for it but in the meantime I can send you the slides from my most recent study group in August. Just let me know if you would like them.

    Hi Caitlyn,

I would love to be apart of your November group. Can I also get a copy of the slides from your August session.

    Hi Caitlyn!
I am scheduled to take the test prior to your study group next month, but would love to get a copy of your most recent study group in August as well, if it is an option?  If I fail the upcoming test, I will definitely sign up for your upcoming November study group!
Thank you so much in advance!

Hi Virginia! Welcome to the HCCAnet!

I haven't taken the CCEP exam however, I've had the experience of taking the CHC and not passing. It was extremely discouraging. However, it can be done! I ended up taking mine and passed on the second time. So, I am very glad that you are on here looking for additional resources.

Your post didn't sound bitter, at all. Have you seen Bill's (William Wong's) posts that he has done here lately? He is putting together some great powerpoint slides regarding topics as he is studying for the CCEP. They could be helpful. Also, search for Caitlin Tobey's stuff. She has led a couple of study groups for the CCEP. And while the CHC exam may be a completely different exam when I was reviewing the 'test' exam that is provided by HCCA/SCCE I was surprised by how much the CCEP was similar to the CHC, as I was studying. So, maybe check out the library on the CHC Study group. There are a lot of resources there and some of the could be beneficial for you.

Good luck on your second exam take. I have no doubts that you can and will succeed.

OOPS...sorry I saw this pop up on my computer and when I clicked on it, I was taken to the CHC community...sorry about that.  The below likely does not apply...but as some folks are also studying for the CHC/CHPC who are currently working on the CCEP...I decided to leave it posted.
Good luck on your efforts.  I invite folks to call me out...but certainly you will find no shortage of those scenario (BEST, NEXT, etc) types of questions that are on the CHC and CHPC exams posted in the CHC and CHPC study groups.  I would guess I've posted at least 50...maybe closer to 100 and still counting.

In any case, along with the questions, people are very good at sharing their rationales on why they selected their responses. From time to time I do post videos that also go over how to analyze the question and apply different strategies on how to select a response.

So far postings in the eGroup seem to be working as we continue to have a good number of people who will post one of the best posts we see in the eGroup which are the "I passed the exam..." types of messaging.

Stay the course, learn from others on the eGroups...and one suggestion right off the bat is to make sure you are not signing up to take the exam too quickly.  Note...this is strictly from a C&C (Compare and Contrast) that attending the Academy is not required to pass the exam.  Many folks who have not attended the Academy or other events and passed their exams.  Now let's also make sure to highlight that there are also folks who have taken the exam right after attending an Academy and passed the exam as well.

Good luck in whatever options you explore.
