    Hello and Happy Thanksgiving,

How do you handle 'social admissions' from a Compliance perspective? Having a tough time with this as we will have social admissions without ANY medical need - do you issue HINNs? Does the Compliance Officer intervene? Is it handled by UR?

    Any information is appreciated,

To my knowledge our hospitals don't do that.  Admissions must be medically necessary.  If you're doing social admissions, I think the patient should be aware and sign an HINN.  This would normally be handled by Case Management / Utilization Review staff.
