A common question that compliance professionals post asks for ideas or suggestions on where to focus as part of their auditing and monitoring activities.  For those organizations that provide surgical services...this month's article in Compliance Today on overlapping surgeries is a good primer on some of the risks associated with overlapping surgeries.

What makes this article particularly topical is that it points out that the volume of surgeries may increase as organizations deal with the backlog of surgeries that occurred during the cancellation of elective surgeries during COVID.

The article is available to all as it appears on the webpage of monthly articles and quizzes posted by the HCCA.  The link for the article is:

Thank you to Sara Brinkmann, Lauren Slive Gennett, and Isabella Wood for what I think is a very good article and one that gives people a good perspective to help them identify if overlapping surgeries is an area that they may want to focus on with respect to auditing and monitoring.
