Great beginnings here. I echo everyone in appreciating the time and effort to further our knowledge and understanding.
I have an established risk management background and auditing and monitoring has always been a part of my toolkit, I see the value for compliance in both your comments and the following:
  • I can only properly manage what I can measure (your point)
  • In risk, we are focused on "no surprises" the same holds true in compliance, I want to know about compliance issues rather than be told about them
  • Auditing with a defined schedule prepares everyone in advance, monitoring on a periodic basis prepares compliance in advance (do I really understand the process and the challenges faced with complying?)
  • The proverbial "trust, but verify" - if approached and applied with respect and mutual understanding goes a long way in developing long term relationships
