Measuring Your Organization’s Climate for Ethics: The Survey Approach The U.S. Sentencing Commission explicitly recognized the significance of “culture” in its 2004 amendments to the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, stating that businesses must “promote an organizational culture that encourages ethical conduct and a commitment to compliance with the law.”1 To assess whether such an environment exists, organizations are increasingly making use of employee perception surveys.
