The Web 2.0 world -- Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and social networks like this one -- have quickly grown to be as ubiquitous as the traditional web sites.  SCCE has over 5,000 people following it on Twitter (SCCE_News), a LinkedIn group fast approaching 1,000 members and this social network site with several thousand members.

No problem.  But, there is a lot of activity on these sites that is far less tame.  Anyone who has spent time on Facebook has likely seen items on friends and colleagues pages which make you say, "What were they thinking?"

To see what business is thinking about the world of social media, we conducted a survey that was responded to by just shy of 800 compliance and ethics professionals.    The results showed that policies have not yet caught up with the changing world.  On the positive side, only 24% of companies have had to discipline an employee for activities on these social network sites.  Yet, the fact that only about a quarter of respondents were aware of formal, active monitoring by their company suggests that the risk may be far greater.
