CMS Recognizes The Joint Commission's Accreditation of Psychiatric Hospitals

Keep in mind that a psych hospital accredited by JC for health and safety standards, still needs a state Medicaid agency review. The CFR requires national accreditation, but also requires a state team to review each Medicaid enrolled facility for clinically appropriate treatment as identified in federal and state regs. JC may review federal regs and standards, but do not review state regs. It has been my experience as a state MC administrator, that facilities may obtain national accreditation, but fail to meet state requirements.
