Security Challenges of Electronic Health Records

By Feisal Nanji posted 03-18-2009 07:42 AM

This Blog is dedicated to improving security and privacy of health information. We know this is a complex area, with HIPAA and state laws dominating regulatory requirements. However, with the recent passage of the stimulus bill that provides about $ 20 Billion of funding for accelerating Electronic Health Record use, the,  security issues are now even more complex and urgent.

Several questions emerge from this including:

  1. What added new responsibilities will compliance and privacy officers face responsibilties regarding information security and privacy?  How will they manage this?
  2. What audit steps can, or should compliance officers take?
  3. How do compliance officers monitor the inappropriate access of Electronic Health Records?

Please let me know if this is of interest to you. If there is enough interest I will maintain this discussion group.

Best regards,
